SmartLights Business Development Manager

The SmartLights Program is a successful energy efficiency program designed to provide energy efficiency improvement services to small businesses in the Bay Area. Under this program, small businesses receive comprehensive energy audits and rebates for installation of recommended measures, primarily in lighting and refrigeration.

Our Business Development Manager will work primarily in the field in the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa and Marin. This position requires a passion for building relationships and working closely with business owners and other decision makers while selling appropriate energy upgrades. The Business Development Manager will visit customers to evaluate their energy systems, identify appropriate upgrades, and sell the benefits of the recommended measures.

Community Energy Services, based in Berkeley, CA, is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to building sustainable communities in the greater Bay Area through innovative and hands-on energy and building improvement programs. We work in partnership with cities, counties, and utilities to provide these services in under-served and vulnerable communities.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for selling energy-efficient lighting upgrades to businesses in the Bay Area.

Primary responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to, the following:

Project Sales
* Recruit, qualify and meet with business owners and property managers to explain value and purpose of program
* Sell comprehensive, multiple-measure energy efficiency upgrades to commercial businesses
* Utilize innovative marketing and social media strategies to reach target market

Energy Auditing 
* Document existing conditions of customers’ lighting, refrigeration and HVAC systems
* Specify efficient improvements
* Prepare audits and energy savings reports for customers
* Ensure that audits prepared by subcontractors are complete and accurate

Installation Management and Quality Control
* Schedule installations and manage contractors
* Perform quality control checks on installed projects
* Train customers to use advanced lighting technologies

Job Tracking, Project Coordination, and Database Management
* Ensure customers receive all services offered by the program and that all jobs are properly checked
* Maintain an active job-tracking database

Qualifications:
* Four or more years of sales experience in related field
* BA/BS or four years of experience in a professional setting
* Experience with commercial property management
* Small/medium commercial energy efficiency audit or installation
* Electrical contracting, maintenance, or equivalent in another field

Work Environment
Generally, the work environment is in the field with minimal time in the office. A personal vehicle is required and mileage will be reimbursed as per federal guidelines.
